On April 21, the European Commission unveiled the first-ever legal framework on artificial intelligence (AI): the Artificial Intelligence Act. The extensive AI Act addresses the risks stemming from the various uses of AI systems and aims to promote innovation in the field of AI. The High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence wrote the guidelines, after consulting with members of the European AI Alliance, which is a multi-stakeholder forum created to provide feedback on regulatory initiatives regarding AI. Defining Artificial Intelligence Under the ActThe European Commission chose not to define AI per se but to define AI systems instead. Providers of AI systems will be obligated to communicate accuracy metrics to those who use their AI systems.
