BYD, the world’s largest EV maker, has decided to end its deal with Baidu to incorporate the tech giant’s autonomous driving technology in its electric vehicles. The initial agreement, made in March 2022, would have seen BYD utilize Baidu’s technology, including navigation and automated valet parking, in its EV lineup. The termination of the deal is a setback for Baidu’s autonomous driving ambitions, highlighting the challenges faced by the Chinese self-driving industry in achieving fully autonomous vehicles. Despite these challenges, Baidu remains committed to self-driving technology and views it as a priority for the company. BYD, on the other hand, does not see immediate prospects for self-driving technology in the mass market for electric vehicles.
