California Approves Autonomous Vehicle Permits for Cruise and Waymo

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has granted the last remaining permits to Cruise and Waymo, allowing the two companies to offer commercial robotaxi services in San Francisco. While Cruise and Waymo have secured this victory, they still have work ahead to gain public acceptance for autonomous vehicles. Bird, another micromobility company, is undergoing a CEO change with Michael Washinushi taking on the role as interim CEO. In addition, Inrix, a transportation analytics and connected car services company, secured $70 million in financing. Treehouse, a home EV charging startup, raised $10 million in funding, and Yellow, a trucking company, filed for bankruptcy.
