Cargo drone startup gets state grant to demo aircraft in Michigan

It would be the first public demonstration of an autonomous, fixed-wing eVTOL craft hauling 100 pounds of cargo, according to a company news release. Michigan has been courting eVTOL companies from the West Coast as it looks to be a leader in mobility beyond just automotive. Its second-generation craft, Cento, received an FAA certificate of authorization for long-range flights, while its third-generation craft will be tested in California before demonstrations in Michigan. The flights in Michigan, to be conducted at the Alpena County Regional Airport, will showcase the craft's ability to haul 100 pounds of cargo within a 6 foot by 19 inch by 18 inch cargo bay. Charlie Tyson, technology activation manager for the state's office of future mobility and electrification, said Michigan is uniquely positioned to support testing and deployment of eVTOL aircraft.
