Autonomous Vehicle News
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has voted to authorize the expansion of driverless cars in San Francisco, despite safety concerns raised by Consumer Watchdog. Waymo and Cruise could previously operate driverless cars in the city but could not charge fares all the time. With the recent vote, the companies can now charge for all rides, expand their operations, and add more autonomous vehicles to their fleets. Waymo has recently obtained its driverless deployment permit from the CPUC, while Cruise has yet to turn a profit in its 10-year existence. The goal of the project is to develop a more efficient and reliable autonomous driving system with a focus on AI edge computing.
