Image Recognition
In recognition of Disability Pride Month, we share this image of sign painter Leo Sievert working on a billboard for Stagnaro Fishing Trips, circa 1930s. At the age of 7, Sievert was run over by a Los Angeles-Pacific Electric Railway car along Sunset Boulevard. He is noted not only for his signs for Santa Cruz Wharf and the Hawaiian Gardens in Capitola but also the iconic, towering mural above the historic Del Mar Theater. The Capitola Historical Museum exhibition “Capitola – Signs of the Times” features Sievert’s artwork and sign making tools. (Image courtesy of Ken Sievert, Capitola Historical Museum)
