Kodiak Robotics, a leading self-driving trucking company, has announced that it is the first company to pilot the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Enhanced Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Inspection Standard program. This program allows autonomous trucks to pre-clear roadside inspections, addressing a critical hurdle for the deployment of driverless trucks. The Enhanced Inspections program requires a CVSA-certified inspector to conduct a thorough inspection of an autonomous truck combination. By participating in the Enhanced Inspection program, autonomous trucks that follow the approved process are exempt from routine inspections at weigh stations and other inspection sites. This pilot program demonstrates a solution to the challenge of how autonomous trucks will handle highway weigh station inspections.
