Kodiak Robotics said it became the first company to pilot what’s known as the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Enhanced Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection Standard program. The CVSA approved elements of the program last fall in an effort to streamline interactions between self-driving trucks and law enforcement personnel at fixed inspection sites. Kodiak said satisfying in-person inspections without a driver to assist officers remained a key hurdle to the broader deployment of autonomous trucks. The trucks subsequently transmit the inspection details and other relevant information to law enforcement, allowing them to effectively bypass inspection sites and weigh stations during that period. Kodiak partnered with connected trucking platform Drivewyze and the Texas Department of Public Safety to evaluate the system on Texas interstate highways.
