Retail sales of new passenger vehicles industrywide slid 2 percent in June, ending a three-month rebound, according to the China Automobile Dealers Association's preliminary tally. Roughly 1.9 million sedans, crossovers, SUVs and multipurpose vehicles were delivered across China last month, the trade group said Wednesday. While the overall new-vehicle market contracted, retail sales of electrified vehicles including full electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids remains robust, advancing 19 percent to about 638,000 in June. In the first six months, overall new-vehicle sales gained 3 percent from a year earlier to 9.53 million while electrified-vehicle deliveries surged 36 percent to 3.06 million, the CADA estimates. From March to May, China’s new-car market rebounded sharply due to favorable comparisons to the pandemic-hit period a year earlier.
