MORE THAN SMART New self-driving car can tell when a driver feels uncomfortable with ‘glance’ technology in drastic safety pushGENERAL Motors has applied to patent technology that would sense when someone using autonomous driving is uncomfortable. The new self-driving car is designed to anticipate when something about the experience tempts you to take over the wheel. If the vehicle can sense when someone is uncomfortable, the autonomous technology can then alter the actions of the vehicle to avoid the driver taking over. Autonomous vehicles equipped with Level 3 autonomous technology are still being studied and developed as well, so we likely won't see this within the decade. While it's a ways away, it does show that automakers are looking into even the distant future to find ways to help people adapt to self-driving technology.
