STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- One of the region’s busiest airports is continuing to push the boundaries of cutting-edge autonomous vehicle technology that could one day help passengers quickly and conveniently navigate its facilities. Earlier this week, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that it will host a second demonstration period to test the use of platooning autonomous vehicle shuttles at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The demonstration will feature three autonomous vehicle shuttles platooning, which allows multiple autonomous vehicles to travel together in unison, increasing the passenger capacity for each trip. “The Port Authority seeks to be a leader in the region in testing and considering the use of autonomous technology in public transit,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton.
