Not only the drone war is imminent two decades oldbut innovations to this deadly technology are constantly being developed. Case in point: New Scientist magazine recently dug up a contract between the US Air Force and a little-known defense company showing the government deploying reconnaissance and surveillance drones equipped with facial recognition to assist in special operations. The Air Force’s provider is a Seattle-based company, RealNetworks, which sells a platform called Secure Accurate Facial Recognition, or SAFR. While not much is known about how the US is using this technology or how long it has been using it, one thing is certain: it scares people. motherboard Remarks that such drones could easily be used for “intelligence and targeting,” meaning anyone pursued by these little contraptions is likely to be in deep shit.
