US policymakers and agencies are exploring ways to regulate autonomous vehicles (AVs) more extensively. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) plans to announce new rule-making in September that could benefit AV companies like Cruise and Zoox. General Motors, the owner of Cruise, submitted a petition earlier this year to deploy up to 2,500 Cruise Origins annually without human controls. Commsignia has launched a V2X device for micromobility vehicles that broadcasts messages about the cyclist’s position and receives messages from other vehicles to alert the rider of potential hazards. Aurora Innovation, an autonomous vehicle company, has sold $820 million worth of stock to fund its pursuit of commercializing self-driving trucks.
