Christina Estes/KJZZ Passengers press a button to begin a ride in Waymo's fully autonomous vehicle in Phoenix. Starting Friday, Waymo One riders can access areas that extend further north to uptown Phoenix and towards Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale. Accessibility has also grown south towards the South Mountain Village and east into downtown Mesa. In total, Waymo’s service area now covers 225 square miles across the Valley. According to the company, the latest improvements include more efficient pick-ups and drop-offs and better communications between autonomous vehicles and pedestrians.
