In a press release revealing a study, the white lights "would enable autonomous vehicles to help control traffic flow – and let human drivers know what’s going on. “The white phase concept also incorporates a new traffic signal, so that human drivers know what they are supposed to do. However, the study also shows, as the percentage of autonomous vehicles at white phase intersections increased, the benefits of their purpose did too.
