This week, ZOE.2, the most advanced fully-autonomous car in Australia, was tested on outback roads, with the technology tipped to become a reality for consumers within the next 10 years.\nMount Isa resident Ranita Toholke, who was the first person in town to try the car, said elderly and disabled people as well as those who could not drive for other reasons would be able to take advantage of a driverless car.\nFellow Mount Isa resident Paul Shaw said the vehicles could make long trips often taken by outback residents a lot more comfortable.\nMr Shaw said a lack of public transport in town meant driverless vehicles could ease pressure on taxi services.\nZOE was tested in Mount Isa to prove that high-tech, driverless cars could adapt to outback environments.
