Dr. Bola J. Mudasiru, stated this in a presentation titled, “Engineering the Digital Nervous System: AI and Digital Ecosystems for Future-Ready African Infrastructure.”
He identified urban traffic management, emergency response, infrastructure inspection, enforcement, utilities optimisation and digital public-service delivery as areas where AI could improve efficiency.
Mudasiru also highlighted the importance of Digital Pavement Management Systems and Bridge Management Systems in improving road and bridge maintenance across the continent.
The engineer identified predictive maintenance as another area where AI could help reduce infrastructure failures and operational costs.
Mudasiru therefore called for stronger collaboration among engineers, governments, private-sector infrastructure operators, technology experts and communities to maximise the benefits of AI and digital technologies in Africa.
