“The primary rule of thumb for any Smart City project was that every state’s capital would be declared a Smart City, and if any other parameters matched, then it would be considered.

However, CM Khandu said he pushed for two Smart Cities in Arunachal Pradesh and took up the proposal with the Centre.

“But I thought I would get two Smart Cities in Arunachal, and I proposed this to the Centre.

So this is how Arunachal is the only state in the Northeast with two Smart Cities,” CM Khandu said.

The Smart Cities Mission is implemented by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to promote urban development through improved infrastructure and services.
