[IOWA CITY, Iowa] — A cybersecurity issue is affecting a system used by students and staff at the University of Iowa.

The issue is affecting several universities across the country. The University of Iowa says the Canvas portal is unavailable right now.

The platform is used by schools for course management, assignments and grading, and communication between students and teachers.

The outage comes as the semester nears its end. This is the last week of classes before final exams next week.

University officials say the IT team is monitoring the situation and working with the vendor to restore service. Canvas is also out at Iowa State University.

The University of Northern Iowa does not use Canvas for instruction delivery.
