JOHOR BAHRU, June 15 — Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully hosted the 3rd International Urban Planning Conference (iNUPC) 2026, bringing together urban planning professionals, academics, government agencies, industry representatives and students to discuss strategies for building sustainable and resilient cities across Southeast Asia. The conference was organised by students enrolled in the SBEW4293 Conference Planning course under the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU), UTM. Held under the theme “Future-Proofing Cities in Southeast Asia through Sustainable and Adaptive Urban Growth,” the conference provided a platform for knowledge exchange on emerging urban challenges, including climate resilience, smart city development, sustainable mobility and inclusive urban growth. The conference was further structured around six important sub-themes: Pathways to Net Zero and Climate-Resilient Futures, Smart Connectivity and Next-Generation Mobility, Cultural and Heritage Inclusion for Future Tourism, Human-Centric Urbanism and Community Well-Being, Equitable Housing and Inclusive Urban Regeneration, and Rural Empowerment and Regional Development. The conference attracted 406 participants, comprising planners, academics, students, government officers and industry practitioners from Malaysia, Indonesia, Macau SAR and the Philippines.
