As energy transition is becoming an inevitable global trend, the development of smart energy infrastructure has been identified in the country as a key pillar for achieving green growth, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring national energy security. The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) Online Newspaper, in coordination with relevant partners, will host the Smart Energy Infrastructure Development Forum on the morning of June 24, 2026, at the Melia Hanoi Hotel. In recent years, Vietnam has made notable progress in renewable energy development. Wind and solar power capacity has expanded rapidly, making the nation one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic renewable energy markets. At the same time, multiple transmission grid projects, modern dispatch centres, smart metering systems and digital technologies for power operations have been deployed. However, the development of smart energy infrastructure continues to face numerous challenges. Transmission systems in some areas have yet to keep pace with the rapid expansion of renewable energy sources, while the integration of distributed power generation remains limited. Investment in energy storage technologies has yet to match demand, while data infrastructure and digital energy management platforms are still being developed. Under the revised Power Development Plan VIII, Vietnam aims to accelerate the development of smart grid systems by 2035, while increasing investment in advanced transmission technologies such as high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines and converter stations. The country also plans to expand renewable energy capacity, energy storage systems and smart energy management solutions. Smart energy infrastructure will play a central role in connecting clean energy sources with electric vehicle charging infrastructure, smart cities and green industrial parks.
