CEDIA held its third annual CEDIA Day on Capitol Hill on Thursday, March 26. CEDIA’s Board of Directors joined its leaders and partners to advocate for policies in support of smart home professionals. The event started with a breifing on Wednesday from Rep. Linda Sánchez (D-CA) regarding the state of Congress and how to advocate for policies. Meetings with the Department of labor, a CEDIA demonstration with the Congressional Smart Cities Caucus and congressional office breakout meetings took place the following day. CEDIA spoke with the Department of Labor in an effort to achieve an occupational classification for “Technology Integrator.” The meeting also explored a national apprenticeship pathway for talent in the smart home industry. CEDIA’s Amanda Wildman, chairperson and founder of TruMedia Home and Alex Capecelatro, CEO of Josh.ai presented an “AI Comes Home” demonstration. They highlighted the virtues of proper integration and innovative technology in creating safer, smarter homes. The showcase booth included Lutron/Ketra shades and lighting, IC RealTime security and Sonos audio. CEDIA said that Rudy Yakym (R-IN), Rep. Mark Messmer (R-IN), Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY) and Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) stopped by the booth to engage with the demonstration.
