City’s first autonomous shuttle adds Atlanta University Center stop ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Atlanta’s first autonomous shuttle has added a new stop on its loop. First launched in June, ATL Spoke can now take passengers to the Atlanta University Center Consortium, the nonprofit that links Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College. Lowery Boulevard at Beecher Street by the Beltline and two locations in the Lee + White District — the food hall and Boxcar/Wild Heaven. “As we think about the future of equitable urban development, we have to focus on how we connect people to opportunity,” Clyde Higgs, president and CEO of Atlanta Beltline, Inc., said in a statement. “By extending this pilot to the Atlanta University Center, we are not only expanding mobility options for students, faculty, staff and visitors — we are testing a model that Atlanta and other cities can learn from as they work to build more equitable, connected and opportunity-rich communities.” The 12-month pilot project is supported by a $1.75 million grant from the Georgia Transportation Efficiency Authority. The free service operates seven days a week from noon to 10 p.m., with shuttles arriving every 12 to 15 minutes. Each vehicle is ADA-compliant, can carry up to 12 people and has an onboard attendant.
