Disney faces $5 million lawsuit over use of facial recognition data

(CNN) – A $5 million class-action lawsuit has been filed against Disney.

The lawsuit claims Disney’s theme parks in California collect facial recognition data from adults and children without clear disclosure or consent.

Disney started using the technology at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park in April to verify tickets.

The technology compares the photos with images taken when people first used their tickets or annual passes.

There are separate entrances for visitors who do not want to opt in to the biometric technology, but the lawsuit claims that does not amount to meaningful notice.

The lawsuit also claims most visitors are swept into the scans without realizing it.

Disney has not commented on the lawsuit.
