Announced Sept. 17, the Quantum Genesis Q Competition is part of DOE’s push toward scientifically relevant quantum computing by 2028.
A companion validation and verification testbed has $45 million in planned funding, including $14 million in fiscal 2026 dollars.
It envisions quantum computing working alongside HPC, AI and experimental facilities, with future investments guided by demonstrated scientific value and technical readiness.
The panel calls for coordinated work on applications, algorithms, software and enabling technologies, as well as quantum hardware.
