East Tennessee woman seeks $10M after spending nearly 6 months in jail over AI facial-recognition error

CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Angela Lipps is seeking $10 million from the City of Fargo, North Dakota, and Fargo Police Department Detective Lucas Heck.

She heard officers shouting about North Dakota but did not understand why.

Lipps remained in custody for nearly six months, first in Tennessee and then in North Dakota.

Her bank records showed she was in Tennessee when the North Dakota crimes occurred, according to the lawsuit.

Lipps’ lawsuit alleges false arrest, malicious prosecution and violations of her constitutional rights.
