Freightliner provided a Fifth Generation Cascadia to the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) for its Spirit of the American Trucker tour, giving professional drivers an opportunity to see the truck’s safety, driver-assistance, and powertrain technologies firsthand. Veteran driver and OOIDA brand ambassador Marty Ellis will use the Cascadia to haul the organization’s Spirit of the American Trucker educational trailer to truck stops, trade shows and industry events across the United States. Cascadia Supports OOIDA Outreach Tour The Spirit of the American Trucker tour is OOIDA’s nationwide outreach program, giving the organization an opportunity to meet with professional drivers and discuss its advocacy work and membership. Daimler Truck North America said it has helped move the Spirit tour since 2013, providing a new vehicle every few years to support the program. The Fifth Generation Cascadia is the latest truck supplied for the tour. “Drivers aren’t looking for someone to speak for them—they want someone willing to listen,” said Todd Spencer, OOIDA president. “The Spirit gives us the opportunity to meet drivers where they are, hear what’s happening on the road, and make sure their voices help shape our fight in Washington. That’s what OOIDA has always been about and our longstanding partnership with Freightliner allows us to continue our work while giving drivers exposure to modern equipment and technology that can benefit their operation.” At tour stops, Ellis will open the truck cab to visitors so drivers can explore the Cascadia and its technology firsthand. Safety Systems Include ABA6 and MirrorCam The OOIDA truck is equipped with the Detroit Assurance suite of safety systems, including Active Brake Assist 6, Active Lane Assist 2 and Active Side Guard Assist.
