Pulling telematics and cameras together into one system can save fleets up to 20%, as well as delivering more effective data insights, according to Fleet Focus. The company took its knowledge from the truck sector and created an AI dashcam, which opened up the van market. It can now work with any size of fleet running any type of asset. Graham Plummer, Fleet Focus commercial director (pictured above), explained: “We can offer everything on one platform and it doesn’t matter which hardware, so we have full consistency. We can also bring CAM data into the system for one view from multi-marque data.” Fleet Focus is an open API which means customers can link with other software providers, for example, weight loading systems, to enrich the insight from the data. However, Plummer believes AI cameras are “misunderstood”. “We look at it as duty of care and welfare of the driver,” he said. “It’s about understanding their established norm and then spotting changes in their behaviour. And the camera can often be the mitigating factor in a crash.” He added: “Most AI camera systems are in-built. We built in a second AI cleanse on all the data at server level which gives greater understanding for verification. So we only push through things that have reached 95% accuracy after the cleanse.” Fleet Focus believes one of its USPs is the fact it is a UK company, with all data held in this country. “As a UK company, we understand the operating risks in the UK,” Plummer said. “We have engineers on the ground working closely with fleets.” Its latest product is an asset tracking device, ideal for trailers and equipment.
