From lab to startup: This professor wins prestigious engineering prize Raymond Fu has been awarded the IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu Award for his research on “computer vision and augmented human-machine interaction.”
Since joining the university in 2012, he has spun out more than four technology startups out of Northeastern University’s Synergetic Media Learning Lab, which focuses on big data, artificial intelligence and computer vision technologies.
Yonina Eldar, a professor of electrical and computer engineering and a Joseph E. Aoun chair, was awarded the honor in 2016 while a faculty member at the Israel Institute of Technology.
Making specific mention of Fu’s work on computer vision technologies, Yeh, highlighted his work on advancing computer vision architecture technologies that have “established new benchmarks for AI-based image restoration and enhancements.”
According to Yeh, Fu’s work has been cited over 15,000 times, and he remains among the most influential contributors in computer vision research.
