Gulfstream's Pursuit of 100% SAF for Business Aviation The global aviation sector accounts for around 2.5% of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions, according to the Aviation Environment Foundation. As an energy-intensive industry, the pressure is on to cut both fuel burn and lifecycle emissions. Gulfstream is responding by pairing advanced airframe efficiency with a clear roadmap to 100% SAF, aiming to slash the carbon and particulate intensity of each flight. How Gulfstream is scaling up SAF production Gulfstream backs SAF development by working closely with fuel producers and engine makers to hit technical milestones and unlock new energy pathways for business aviation. To date, Gulfstream aircraft have flown more than 3.5 million nautical miles (6.5 million kilometres) on SAF, helping to prove performance and build supply confidence. In July 2026, Gulfstream became the first business aviation company to successfully complete a high-altitude flight test campaign with 100% SAF. The aircraft allowed researchers to capture real-world measurements of emissions and atmospheric conditions at typical altitudes for business aviation. Early data point to a significant drop in contrail-forming particulates when running on neat SAF, a key non-CO₂ climate lever for the sector.
