Hanwha Aerospace is seeking technology partners for next-generation development projects, including autonomous driving AI, battery monitoring systems, counter-drone capabilities and aero engine materials, with development work scheduled to begin in the second half of this year. The company made its first appearance at NextRise 2026, South Korea's largest venture and startup exhibition, held at COEX in Seoul on June 18-19. Hanwha Aerospace unveiled internally developed projects across its ground weapons, guided weapons and aero engine businesses in an effort to identify technology partners for future development programs. The largest number of projects are concentrated in the ground weapons sector. Key objectives include upgrading weapons systems and reducing dependence on imported components. One representative project involves the localization of a 28-volt, 25-kilowatt vehicle direct current (DC) generator used in infantry fighting vehicles and other military platforms. Because the product has been sourced from overseas suppliers, discontinuation decisions by foreign manufacturers have created supply risks. Hanwha Aerospace aims to eliminate those risks through domestic development. The target is a compact, lightweight generator that meets military specifications while achieving efficiency above 95%. Battery health monitoring is another major focus. The company seeks to develop hardware capable of monitoring not only remaining battery capacity on the battlefield but also charge-discharge cycles and battery life prediction in real time. Hanwha Aerospace has been expanding its battery business, including supplying lithium-ion battery packs for Hanwha Ocean's next-generation submarines using prismatic battery cells from Samsung SDI. As autonomous driving capabilities for unmanned vehicles advance, integrating AI processing systems has become an increasingly important challenge. Currently, sensors such as cameras, LiDAR and satellite navigation receivers operate as separate systems.
