Veteran Ruben A. Cespedes, third from left, receives a Purple Heart during a Sept. 11 ceremony at Fort Totten, New York.

Yesenia Saldivar coordinated the ceremony with Lt. Col. Jason Morgan, first from left, the officer in charge of the 301st Information Operations Battalion.

Saldivar is the noncommissioned officer in charge for the U.S. Army Human Resources Command Awards and Decorations Branch.

She coordinates ceremonies for veterans approved to receive awards for their past service, allowing them to receive long-overdue recognition and share the occasion with their families.
