Together, the two programmes address different but interconnected requirements of urban development.Smart Cities: Real Smart Urban Management Uttar Pradesh has expanded the Smart Cities framework to 17 municipal corporation cities.

Ten cities—Agra, Aligarh, Bareilly, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Moradabad, Prayagraj, Saharanpur and Varanasi—were selected under the Central Smart Cities Mission.

Seven others—Ayodhya, Firozabad, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Mathura, Meerut and Shahjahanpur—were included under the state's own Smart Cities initiative.

For the Yogi Adityanath government, Smart Cities and AMRUT provide complementary mechanisms to improve urban infrastructure and municipal services.
