The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has continued to reshape itself under the Trump administration this year.

In addressing homelessness, Secretary Scott Turner has helped usher in an era that seeks to promote treatment initiatives over the agency’s longstanding “housing-first” approach.

It has also advocated for trimming billions of dollars from affordable housing programs and changes to who is eligible to receive certain federal funding.

Congress’ passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act in July placed further expectations and deadlines on HUD.

Despite significant staff cutbacks, the agency maintains it is capable of performing the tasks.
