With Nacon filing for insolvency, it was announced in May that Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown developer KT Racing will suffer job losses. The ramifications are becoming clear, as development for future Test Drive updates has slowed down with the team working at a smaller capacity. “We have to be honest here,” Community Manager AlexVII wrote in a recent Solar Club newsletter. “It’s evident that Nacon and KT are facing new challenges at the moment, and we no longer have the capacity to tackle multiple complex features at the same time.” As a result, the Online Racing Centre originally planned for next month’s Season 7 update is postponed. Instead, the next season will be a smaller update, featuring six cars including the BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Mazda RX-7 and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV. It will also introduce several quality-of-life improvements, such as improved hypercar driving physics. KT Racing is now prioritising the development of buyable houses in Season 8, a staple lifestyle element of previous Test Drive Unlimited games. “Right now we are focusing on housing to give the community the best experience possible,” Alex VII continued. “Even though the ORC is important, and as you can see, we have already started working on it, we have to focus on Season 8 and the housing development because it is one of, if not the most important features.” Discussion
