UPDATE: The Little Rock Board of Directors did not come to an agreement on a vote, and will revisit the ordinance at a later date.

The Little Rock Board of Directors is set to vote Monday night on an ordinance aimed at increasing transparency and oversight of how the Little Rock Police Department uses surveillance technology, including Flock license plate readers and facial recognition software.

Under the proposal, LRPD would be required to conduct monthly audits to identify potential misuse of surveillance technology.

This is not Phillips’ first attempt to establish additional oversight of police surveillance technology.

Last December, Phillips introduced a separate ordinance focused on police surveillance transparency, but the Board of Directors voted it down.
