Mitchell County closes probe into Oct. 2025 cyberattack, confirms data theft
MITCHELL COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Mitchell County, N.C., has wrapped up its investigation into an October 2025 ransomware attack.
Officials say cybercriminals accessed systems for several days and took sensitive data, including personal, financial, and health information.
For some, biometric information and/or an online account name and password information were impacted.
The county says it’s now notifying those affected and working with federal and state cybersecurity teams.
