Monterey County Sheriff’s Office officials announced the details of the investigation at a press conference in Salinas Thursday, defending their decision to get a judge-issued arrest warrant, known as a Ramey warrant, for the 14-year-old.
Richard Gang, a detective with the Sheriff’s Office, shared that when Baby Angelita was found she exhibited “crush-type wounds” as well as tire marks.
That car was identified as a beige sedan, which connected the vehicle to Galvez Perez, a Monterey County resident, and Ofelia Garcia Ortega, the parents of the 14-year-old.
The 14-year-old was the mother of the dead baby and DNA evidence indicated Galvez Perez was the father, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Shelby said that the FBI was brought in to collaborate once it became clear the victim and Galvez Perez had fled.
