Nearly nine in 10 maritime respondents suffered a significant operational technology cyber incident during the past year, according to new research from Honeywell Technologies, highlighting the growing exposure of increasingly connected shipboard systems.
Honeywell’s 2026 Operational Technology Cybersecurity Benchmark Report, released on September 22, found that 87% of maritime respondents had experienced a significant OT cybersecurity incident in the preceding 12 months.
The result puts maritime among the most exposed critical-infrastructure sectors in the global survey, behind energy and utilities at 91%.
Some 88% of respondents described their OT cybersecurity programmes as mature, but only 21% said they had a complete inventory of their operational technology assets.
The findings land as maritime technology suppliers step up products specifically targeting shipboard OT.
