New F1 racing simulator centre opens in Peterborough City’s Formula One fans can embrace their need for speed at recently-opened Midgate entertainment venue A new racing simulator entertainment venue designed to thrill motorsport fans has opened in Midgate. Racecraft Sim is home to a collection of state-of-the-art simulators which can be used independently or linked to together to enable groups of friends – or rivals – to race each other. The venture is the brainchild of Johnson Falaiye, a self-confessed Formula One super-fan. He told the Peterborough Telegraph why he believed the city needed this venue: "We are fans of F1 and for us to get [access to] sim racing venues is difficult – you have to travel out of town,” he explained. “So we thought ‘Okay, why not set something up in Peterborough?’” The sleek Hereward Cross venue features eight simulators, replete with private headphones and option-heavy, F1-style steering wheels which will no doubt please fans of Verstappen, Hamilton and co. Johnson went on to explain how the simulators differ from driving games people may see in video arcades: "This is more realistic,” he said, “you feel the effect – it’s like you’re driving a real race car!” The steering wheel is certainly unlike anything you’re likely to encounter in a video arcade, with everything from traction control, changeable paddles and race telemetry on hand. “It has about 21 functions,” he said, smiling; “there’s so much you can do with it.” The centre enables customers to race on computer-rendered versions of real-life tracks, which change each month.
