MicroVision announced on 15 October 2026 that Overland AI has selected its IRIS long-range lidar sensor for integration into the IBEX next-generation fully autonomous ground vehicle.
IBEX carries a 2,000-pound payload and can drive at speeds above 35 mph in full autonomy.
MicroVision's IRIS uses a 1,550-nanometre wavelength invisible to night-vision goggles, offering a tactical advantage, and its solid-state design supports harsh off-road environments.
Why it matters: Overland AI is the first ground-autonomy company to prime a production contract with the US military, and the selection extends MicroVision's push into the security and defence market, where lidar provides perception for autonomous vehicles, robotics and perimeter security.
"The selection of IRIS for Overland's IBEX vehicle underscores the capability and readiness of our sensor to reliably perform in the most challenging defense environments," said MicroVision CEO Glen DeVos.
