Lessons like that are part of the district's new quantum education curriculum through TN QuantumWorks, a quantum technology and career awareness initiative led by the Chattanooga Quantum Collaborative.

"They're understanding the idea that things are made of very small pieces," he said by phone.

"And if you get to very, very small pieces, they don't behave the way everything else you see behaves."

By high school, students are given the opportunity to work on simulations of quantum computers, building up to plans to have them run a program on EPB's own quantum system.

The success of the curriculum doesn't hinge on the creation of a future economy built on quantum technology, she said.
