Project Motor Racing still needs a lot of updates, changes and fixes. That is known and publicly accepted by the Straight4 Studios development team, time and time again. Further changes are expected imminently, a key one being a rework of the computer-controlled rivals, which will lead to larger grids for console players. Currently, on PC, sim racers can compete against up to 31 AI cars. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, that’s only 15 (so 16 cars including yours), and was a common complaint since the game’s launch last year. Significant changes to the AI’s performance, which still, after some changes, likes to behave erratically and hit the brakes in unorthodox places, are coming soon. “We are working very hard right now on the AI in two steps,” said Aris Vasilakos, Chief Creative Officer, to Traxion at Gamescom. “One is to make sure that the AI is balanced across all classes and all tracks. So it has the correct speed and the speed is identical to the way that a human driver makes speed out of the car. “So they’re not just, you know, just fast in the corners and then slow on the straight or vice versa. “Then, we are working in parallel to make the AI much lighter for the system, which is very important because that will permit us to raise the grid count a lot on consoles, and on the PC as well, and of course make better graphics, improvements on the frame rate and so on and so forth.” Discussion
