If you watch much television, you’ve likely seen the commercial where the dejected teenage boy walks away from a cheering group of soccer players — U.S. Men’s National Teams jokes here! — and from inside the backseat of the car texts his mom that he got cut. However, just before that mom gets a text from Uber informing her that her son just got into one of its cars and is heading home. Despite five decades of telling kids not to get into cars with a stranger, this kid just did. But we wonder, would it be better if it had been Waymo or a Tesla Cybercab? According to the recently releases results of the JD Power 2026 U.S. Mobility Confidence Index Study, 31 percent of consumers would put their child in a self-driving vehicle.
