RideFlux, Hanjin Launch South Korea's First Paid Autonomous Truck Service: 116km Gunsan-Daejeon Route Twice Weekly Autonomous driving software startup RideFlux has ignited competition in the logistics market by launching South Korea's first paid freight transport service using autonomous trucks. This service represents the first instance of parcel shipments being transported for actual fees, marking a watershed moment where autonomous driving technology transitions beyond the demonstration phase into a revenue-generating business. Starting on the 1st, RideFlux partnered with Hanjin to begin paid autonomous truck transport on a 116km one-way route from the Gunsan Express Cargo Customs Clearance Center to the Daejeon Mega Hub Center. The route passes through the Jeonju Hanjin Parcel Center, utilizing Tata Daewoo's 25-ton heavy-duty truck, the 'Maxen.' The vehicle carries up to 11 tons of parcel cargo at a maximum speed of 90 km/h, operating twice weekly during daytime hours. A professional safety operator sits in the driver's seat for safety management, but the autonomous driving system handles all driving control. Beyond this regular paid transport, the company plans to conduct its own test runs for data collection two to three times per week in parallel, continuously improving driving performance. This commercialization comes just over two months after RideFlux received South Korea's first-ever permit for paid autonomous truck freight transport from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in April. It demonstrates that the company's previously announced plans for regular transport contracts with major logistics firms and nationwide service expansion are rapidly materializing. Most importantly, the launch of paid transport is seen as a turning point that fundamentally transforms RideFlux's business structure. While South Korea's autonomous driving industry has often relied on government-led demonstration projects (B2G), RideFlux is now fully entering the high-margin business-to-business (B2B) market through a direct contract with a major logistics company like Hanjin.
