Santa Fe County puts AI facial recognition plan on hold
SANTA FE, N.M. – Santa Fe County commissioners tabled a $17,000 plan for the sheriff’s office to test Clearview AI facial recognition technology for one year.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office brought the proposal to the Board of County Commissioners on March 31. The agency asked for $17,000 for a one-year pilot program using Clearview AI facial recognition.

Advocates have expressed concerns about people being misidentified and about privacy. County commissioners shared those concerns during the meeting.
Commissioners tabled the proposal so the sheriff’s office could look into more vendors and review their policies.
