Supercars News: Feeney defeats Payne in Perth Race 2 Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Broc Feeney ended a seven-race winless streak in emphatic fashion, capitalizing on a perfectly timed overtake amid traffic to defeat championship leader Matt Payne in Race 2 (season Race 24) of the Bosch Power Tools Perth Super440 at Wanneroo Raceway. The Red Bull Ampol Racing driver led home Payne (Grove Racing) by 1.5833 seconds, with Payne’s teammate Kai Allen completing a strong Grove 2-3 result in third. –by Mark Cipolloni– After starting on the front row alongside polesitter Payne (who had claimed both Boost Mobile poles earlier in the day), Feeney delivered Triple Eight’s first podium in seven races and his first victory since Symmons Plains. The result also marked a rebound after Feeney’s recovery drive to seventh in the opening race. Race Action Payne got the holeshot from pole and controlled the early stages, while Feeney was slow off the line but successfully defended second from Allen into Turn 1. Thomas Randle ran wide at Turn 3 and lost places to Andre Heimgartner and Chaz Mostert at Turn 4. Rylan Gray’s strong qualifying unraveled quickly as he tumbled down the order, while Will Brown and Jobe Stewart made early gains. By Lap 10 the field was settling, though Cooper Murray and Aaron Cameron made contact on the front straight. The Tickford cars of Cameron Waters and Randle began to fade, with Brodie Kostecki moving into sixth. Before the pit cycle, the order ran Payne, Feeney, Allen, Heimgartner, Mostert, Kostecki, Brown, Randle, Waters and Ryan Wood.
