Austin's streets became home to a fleet of gold-colored Tesla $TSLA Cybercabs Thursday, as the company debuted its fully autonomous vehicle — one that offers passengers no steering wheel or brake pedals and no means of taking control, according to The Associated Press.
The invitation-only launch came as Tesla CEO Elon Musk works to establish the company's autonomous vehicle service against established rival Waymo. According to monitoring site RobotaxiTracker, Waymo's driverless fleet spans 14 cities with more than 4,000 vehicles, dwarfing Tesla's count of just over 200 vehicles without safety drivers operating across six cities in Texas and Florida, the AP reported.
