AUSTIN, Texas — Starting Thursday, the state of Texas is enforcing registration rules for autonomous vehicles, or AVs.

Companies that use AVs to transport passengers or cargo must now have authorization from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). To get that authorization, companies have to certify that their vehicles comply with state and federal laws, have a recording device, can achieve minimal risk if there is a system family, are properly titled and registered, and have vehicle insurance.

KVUE checked in with the Texas DMV to get a list of companies that have active authorizations. Those companies are:

- MOIA America

- Nuro

- Zoox Inc

- Waymo LLC

- May Mobility Inc

- Gatik AI Inc

- Kodiak Robotics Inc

- Aurora Operations Inc

- Truck Opco LLC (Stack AV)

- Tesla Robotaxi LLC

- Bot Auto TX Inc

- Torc Robotics Inc

Some of the listed companies – including Waymo and Tesla Robotaxi – currently have driverless vehicles operating on the streets of Austin.
