The UK’s Surrey County Council is measuring vehicle speeds at 1,339 sites using connected vehicle data instead of radar and automatic traffic counters.

Using connected vehicle data provided by Compass IoT, Surrey has removed the physical constraint of installing hardware, retrieving it and processing the data.

These vehicle speeds are taken across the full road segment rather than a single point, capturing driver variations.

A recurring survey from the connected vehicle data source shows how speeds change over a month and gives a more accurate before-and-after picture when something changes.

Founded in 2018, Compass IoT is a connected vehicle data aggregator with clients across Australia, New Zealand, North America and Europe.
